Healthy Chocolate Smoothie Recipe

Rare is the occasion that I supply a recipe. When I do, smoothies are a safe bet. I was chatting with my stepmom, Shirley, recently about what we put in our smoothies. This is technically her recipe, but she’s one of those people who wings it and her end products still taste great. As a type A control-freak and kitchen-amateur, this terrifies me. How much is a “bit of cocoa??!!”

So I set out to try her ingredients and formulate a recipe. This recipe has little to no sugar depending on the milk, almond/peanut butter and protein powder you use. I buy fresh ground organic almond and peanut butters, so no added sugar there. My almond milk and protein powder both have less than 1 g. of sugar. This is sure to fool the kiddos!

It tastes like a chocolate smoothie. The frozen cauliflower florets act as smooth ice cubes. You can get cauliflower rice pre-made (fresh and frozen) at some stores which also works well. For protein powder, I use Oriya Organics Gather Paleo Plant Protein.

Place ingredients in blender (works best to put bananas in first and frozen cauliflower last) and mix!

Healthy Chocolate Smoothie Recipe (serves 2)

2 bananas
1-1/2 c. almond milk (or any milk)
1/4 c. almond or peanut butter
1-2 tbsp cocoa
1 scoop protein powder
1 c. frozen cauliflower*

*if using fresh cauliflower, add a few ice cubes

Enjoy! Thank you, Shirley!
